Mechanics of Adhesion

A greater understanding of the principals involved in adhesives, adhesive tape, mechanical gripping devices and the forces involved will help the restorer to achieve better results.

Many problems are encountered when trying to put specific areas of skin under constant tension and much of this is to do with asking too much of the physical devices used.  This section attempts to explain the theory behind making such attachments to skin and will use every day examples where possible.

One thing is certain in the world we live in which is inescapable 'The Laws of Physics'.  These laws cannot be ignored so we ought to make an attempt to understand at least the principals, the mathematics that go with these laws can be ignored but the principals cannot.

You may find the following boring but I assure you that understanding the basics may save a lot of effort in the long run.
